Seasonal Lab Technician - Morning Shift (Mount Maunganui)


Located right next to Baypark in Mount Maunganui, Bay of Plenty, we are seeking Seasonal Kiwifruit Laboratory Technicians to join our team. We need your help to build on the success of the last couple of seasons!

The role offers a great opportunity to gain laboratory experience, gain an understanding of the Kiwifruit season, work as part of a team, or earn some money.

This is a great role that will suit a range of candidates, no experience required, full training will be provided with a range of shift hours available including

  • Morning shift (from 6am)
  • Weekends
  • Secondary job (from 6am till 8am)

THE ROLE

Seasonal Kiwifruit Laboratory Technicians carry out routine kiwifruit maturity testing on samples on behalf of our client Zespri to determine if samples meet minimum clearance criteria and assess fruit quality.

This role is for a Fixed term period from March to May, working variable hours.  Hours will be rostered to meet the requirements of the business which operates 7 days a week. 

You will be required to be available to work a minimum of 3 days per week (and up to 6) including at least one weekend day.

Morning shifts are shorter, default start time is 6am (Start time can alter) and usually finishes between 9am and 11am.

As a result of the key tasks and responsibilities of the position, only a limited number of staff are required. A total of 30 technicians will be hired for the position.

Our laboratory operations start ahead of the kiwifruit harvest and offer a variety of tasks.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Routine maturity testing on samples that may include:

  • Sample Reception and Dispatch
  • Calibrating Equipment
  • Completing Dry Matter
  • Fruit Disposal
  • Cleaning
  • Preparing the lab for Main Shift
  • Stock Taking

ABOUT YOU

  • Self-disciplined with proven ability to follow set procedures and take the initiative when necessary
  • Team player, able to create a good working relationship with other staff in the team and across the company
  • Good analytical/technical skills – attention to detail, accuracy & precision
  • Good level of English; Basic computer skills
  • Flexible with hours of work, recognising that this work is seasonal and has peaks and troughs throughout the season
  • Have your own cell phone for receiving text messages (to receive shift information/communications
